Subsequent heavy rainfall caused the lotion to migrate into the nearby White Oak Bayou. An internal investigation was immediately conducted in accordance with the company's protocol and its commitment to environmental safety. That investigation confirmed that the operations team had fully complied with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and established procedures.
The natural coconut lotion was properly discharged through the sanitary sewer line, not the stormwater sewer line. However, it is believed that a sewer overflow allowed the coconut-based material to enter the stormwater system.
