GatherGrounds Resorts has acquired The Oaks Campground, a 155-acre outdoor destination located in the heart of southern Michigan. This acquisition represents an exciting new chapter for the campground, with a series of enhancements and upgrades planned under new ownership.
The Oaks Campground is uniquely positioned next to Waterloo State Recreation Area, the largest state park in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, offering guests direct access to expansive natural landscapes and outdoor recreation. The property is also located just eight minutes from the public boat ramp at Portage Lake, a popular all-sports lake ideal for boating and water activities.
Adjacent to the campground is the Haehnle Bird Sanctuary, home to a wide variety of bird species that are frequently seen throughout the campground, providing a unique and immersive nature experience for guests.
Under GatherGrounds Resorts’ ownership, several improvement projects and additions are planned, including the revitalization of approximately 120 acres of forested riding and recreation trails. These trails are designed for mountain biking, golf carts, horseback riding, and hiking, offering guests multiple ways to explore the property’s scenic terrain.
Planned upgrades also include renovations to the on-site swimming lake beach, with the addition of lounge chairs and a sand volleyball court. A Wibit inflatable waterpark is slated to be added to the lake, creating a dynamic and family-friendly attraction for guests of all ages.
In addition to the swimming lake, The Oaks Campground features a second lake dedicated exclusively to fishing, complete with multiple docks. The property also includes an on-site camp store offering firewood, ice, and scooped ice cream, as well as two large bathhouses with showers and on-site laundry facilities.
Looking ahead, GatherGrounds Resorts plans to introduce additional modern, family-focused amenities and expand weekend programming with a full calendar of family-friendly events designed to foster community.
