NAML, the newly formed organization whose mission it is to create awareness for all Minor League sports

ST. LOUIS, MO / ACCESS Newswire / February 12, 2026 / The National Association of Minor Leagues (NAML) today announced that Damon Cannon has been named Executive Director of the newly formed organization whose mission it is to create awareness for all Minor League sports and to show their importance and contributions to the American sports scene.

Damon Cannon has a vast 27-year history in minor league professional sports including football and basketball. He started as an Asst Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for the world-famous St. Louis Bulldogs Minor League Pro Football team alongside Hall of Fame Head Coach Greg Moore. He later formed the SL Spirit Minor League professional football team of the North American Football League (NAFL) and later was a founding member of the Great Midwest Football League (GMFL) and has also been inducted into the GMFL Hall of Fame.

He then transcended sports to professional basketball and joined the American Basketball Association (ABA) https://realabaleague.com/ and started the St. Louis Spirits and added the Missouri Capitals of Columbus MO and the River City Gamblers of Belleville IL. Damon also founded the Midwest Sound of the Women's American Basketball Association (WABA). As a member of the ABA, Damon has served as a Division Chairman, Regional Director, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Director of National Events and now as President and Executive Director of US Basketball Operations for the ABA.

As the Executive Director of the NAML, Damon will be an ambassador and advocate for the development of minor league professional sports throughout the US and beyond. "We feel very strongly that all minor leagues contribute so much to the fabric of sports but are not recognized and respected for all we do," stated Cannon.
